Monster Hemi - demo 2000
Presenting: The first demo review in the history of La Bruta. Tonight's band hails from the cold north, Finland to be exact. Their name - Monster Hemi -
describes it well; the first song kicks it a start. You can feel the motor starting up and the taste of fuel in your mouth. These guys may not have the
perfect songs, but they have their attitude in the right place. This is kickass rock'n'roll, as they name it. So be it.
1. He Loves You When You're Dead
- The first piece on this demo gets a fair enough drive to the audience. Kind of Motörheadish (as all of these) song. Little bloopers with the playing,
but not so big to be entangled to. The singer's voice really fits in its place. Rating: **
2. Soulstealer
- When I first saw the title I thought: 'Gee, is this a combination of The Hellacopters' Soulseller and The Devil Stole The Beat From The Lord?', but no. It ain't.
This song has also its bloopers and the voice of the singer changes to a bit softer than in the first piece. But hey, don't worry. He really growls in the chorus. This
song was probably the worst song in this demo, but it's not a total piece of shit. Sounds better every time you hear it again. Rating: *
3. The Ultimate Satisfaction
- Couldn't help thinking of The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction, but screw that. This is absolutely the best piece in this demo. The singer guarantees
you the ultimate satisfaction and he isn't entirely wrong. This song rocks and rolls big time. Not bad at all. Rating: ***+
An overall of this demo. The sounds aren't best, but hey it was recorded in a studio. I bet these guys had a major hangover when taping, but nobody's perfect.
They have a point in their music, but there is so much to improve. It's rock allright. You can buy this demo from the Pienlevyt or from their basist/manager
Kalle at the price of 15 FIM. Overall rating of this demo: **+
