ATTACK PUNK GiG Vol. 3

Club Water, Osaka 12/10/02

Five punk bands, a small club, countless punks, booze and racket. This was the mixture that built Attack Punk Gig Vol 3. The place - Club Water - was a tiny club by a whore-block on the third floor. Nevertheless, it had a great soundsystem, prosperous bar and great staff!

The first band to come on-stage was POiKKEUS. For those who don`t know, poikkeus is Finnish and means exception. A punk band in Japan with that name? They were indeed a loud punk band and not at all bad. Despite the young age of the members, they had some rackety tunes and even a few took a stagedive. The place was filled with japanese punks wearing iron-spiked leatherjackets and mohawks. A family-spirit was in the air. After the last song the drummer threw his sticks at the audience and the other one almost sank into my eye; it went right past my face and hit the guy behind me. Poor fellow.

The second band was called The ADDiCTiON. A bit older group with a bit more experience and talent. The songs were a bit rockier than Poikkeus` straightedge punk. They played almost seventeen minutes and caused lots of hassle in the crowd: stagedivers were everywhere and people pushed each other around and around and had a great time! A good thing about Japan is that all the people are so fuckin` polite! It`s all a big family - a punk family - and if someone goes done, everybody helps him up, offers a beer and continue watching the show!

The third band - and final for me - was called - believe it or not - FRAMTiD. Again, for those who don`t know, framtid is Swedish and means future. They were a lot like Poikkeus, but a bit more talented punk-band. The spiky-headed vocalist took more than one stagedive at the crowd and everyone had a good time. Unfortunately, near the end of the set, the right-side speakerwall started coughing up smoke that filled up the whole place. No problem; five minutes went past and someone replaced a blown fuse and the gig continued. The smoke wasn`t doing any good to me so I decided to go outside to take some breath. A mistake that was, since there was no way getting back in; the line was all the way outside and you couldn`t move an inch! I missed two bands - Gauze and Atombomb Onaniizu because of it, but hey: I had a great time!
