You guys have been around for almost ten years now, but the band was
known as Forkboy 'til the year 2000. How has the Finnish punkrock and
rock'n'roll scene changed from the day you started?
Frankly, we don't know the "scene" that good and to be honest we
are quite out of it. There are more rock'n'roll bands, I quess. At least
that's what's hip now. And for the almost ten years of being around
included lots of rehearsing in the basement. I think we have opened the door
now.

What was the reason for the new name anyway? And did anything else change?
"Forkboy" was a stolen name anyway, thanks to Jello Biafra. Nobody had
nothing big against it, so it felt natural. I'd like to say that our songwriting
changed to a certain direction, but that is a lie... it would have changed anyway.
We make better songs, ha-ha.
Your home town, Oulu, is most known of its heavy bands. What kind of
feedback have you had there?
Oh yeah, the northern heavy metal capital for chrissakes. I think
somebody digs us, we have an audience at our gigs, believe it
or not. When we started they just stared... you sweat and scream
and spit and your fingers and your ass bleeds and they just stare
and clap their hands a little bit between songs. Now we scream and
sweat and spit and bleed from our fingers and all that and they even
shout and whistle. Does that mean they like us?
Last year you realised a promotion CD called "Dancing Shoes". If I
remember right Sue magazine gave it 9 points out of 10. Has this CD
halped you anyway?
Of course, the promo got a little bit of attention. The Japanese label,
Myrmecoleo, got interested from that promo, thanks to Harri at Trash
Can who sent it to Kenji, the label boss. A few nice reviews also.
So, are you next "big in Japan"?
We'll have to wait for the comp to be released. We'll see after that. That
would be fun but we tend to be sceptical with everything...
Do you have any plans for doing some gigs abroad?
In the future, yes. But that means that we have to get some
name first, the releases are not out yet.
And I heard, that you had same cooperation with Disgrace. Could you
tell something about that, and why did you decide to do it in a first
place?
That was Jani's idea, he had it all planned out, being the cunning
businessman he is. The Solardisk label man, I mean. Fuck, who wouldn't
want to be on the same 7" with Disgrace? They're good.
I noticed that the split got some great layout design! Who did them anyway?
I had the idea and basic layout, and we fine-tuned them together
with Jani.
Do you have any other Finnish favorite bands?
You probably have all the good bands mentioned on your site...
No need to mention them again. Radiopuhelimet (www.radiopuhelimet.net)
is an incredible band. We have done some gigs with Mary (www.perkele.com),
they're friends.
What are your all-time favorite records?
If we put them all together, that would be a pretty long list...
All the punk, rock'n'roll, garage, noise. AC/DC. That is one of the many
bands to blame.
What's the best gig you've ever seen, and what's the worst one?
AC/DC last year. Ok, that is one of the bands I grew up with... so
there's more to that, but bands should see what they do on stage.
I mean, they're forty- or fiftysomething and blast out and incredible
two-hour rock'n'roll show complete with rolling on the floor and shit.
And worst...? There's too many to mention. And if I'd count them
I would remember them and how they sucked. No way.
What do you think generally about this retro culture and using the same musical things over and over again?
Oh well, a good song is a good song, even though it has been played
for the first time 50 years ago. But you have to be passionate, I think...
There has been some talking about all these Hellacopters-copycats,
and I agree to some point, they usually just lack the energy. All
the heavy metal people suddenly wake up and go "wow, 8-balls, flames,
wallet chains!" and hide their Pantera and Machine Head records. For
a while. It's not that the Flaming Sideburns, for example, offer some new wonderous
musical style or anything like that, but man, do they play it from the heart.
Well, I take even mediocre retro shit over the nu-metal or goth or
whatever-metal any day... ultraproduced metal wanking and whining.
These similar retro rock bands are "millions" all over the world and
more are coming. Can you offer something that lifts you up from that
endless swamp?
We're futuro. Seriously, we're pretty fuckin' good band.
Why else are we doing this interview? Come see us live or buy the
7". You'll see.
What we should expect to see in future from your band?
Shows, better songs... some releases somewhere. Stay tuned to
