Back at the old place. This night merely captured my attention because of a single band, Break-Through, who played among the five other bands. I had seen them live before and made friends with `em, and they were fucking excellent with their original punkrock and couple of classic coversongs from Ramones. Here`s a short summary of Wristband Vol 5.
The doors opened at 7 pm and I was, as usual, on the guestlist. I stashed myself inside to grab a beer on the way toward the stage. This night wasn`t particularly "audience-filled", so to speak. The club wasn`t even half-full and I didn`t get to stagedive more than once. The first band, called Power Amp Headers, started off with slightly punky set, but didn`t seem very interesting. I just concentrated more on drinking s`more beer and getting ready for the better acts. Amidst their punky songs, they offered several boring ballads, that made me want to leave the club.
After three cans of beer on-stage came Runner`s High. I`ve always been very curious where the hell these japanese people dig all the horrendous bandnames. I guess you`d have to be japanese to know. Anyway, Runner`s High-lineup consisted of two girls (bassist & guitarist/singer) and two boys (drummer & lead-guitarist). They played emo-rock and weren`t alltogether bad. The drummer (a topless fat guy) made the audience laugh with his obscure humour. I didn`t get half of the stuff he said (in japanese), but enough to understand his sense of humour. The set was relatively short (4 songs), but better than the first band`s.
Third on-stage was Cyclone. I have nothing to say about it, since I honestly don`t remember! I wasn`t that drunk, but it just sorta slipped by. I was watching it, all right, but I just can`t fucking remember! They must`ve been so boring that my brain switched itself off.
Fourth on-stage was a roaming punk act called Gusus. All dressed up in black motor-leatherjackets and black jeans. The green-haired singer had curious resemblance to Johnny Rotten`s on-stage-behaviour, but with a personal touch. The songs were fucking great, just the kind of ones that make your legs move and sing along the easy choruses. "Sex Drunk Punk Rock, Sex Drunk Punk Rock!", shouted the whole club near the end of the set when they played the same-titled song. Plus this was the part where I got to stagedive, less successfully; I ended up falling against a table (which was actually a metal barrel) and smashed my right hand elbow right through a pile of glasses, cutting myself up pretty badly. Well, I didn`t even notice the blood, nor the wound, until next morning (with a mighty hangover). An excellent gig!
Fifth band on-stage was Narsist, yet another good punkrock-show. Good stage-act, good songs, excellent hooks. Not much else to say. The singer threw a towel into the audience, which was actually Narsist-towel, a merchandise, and I grabbed it with my long tentacles.
Sixth, last, best, Break-through. They give a short set (somewhat 5 songs), but it`s full of energy and vibe. This didn`t prove to be an exception. The audience, however, didn`t feel like.. I don`t know what the hell they felt, but they weren`t getting it. So it was basically just me and a few other punkers in front of the stage, head-banging, moshing, screaming, and causing general chaos. Yet another excellent gig from Break-through. I left the club happily, drunk, sweaty, smelly, with a certain line still ringing in my ears: "Hey ho, let`s go! Hey ho, let`s go!".
